Starting from August 12, the Ministry of Health will begin to review the qualifications and practices of 164 medical institutions which were allowed to conduct organ transplant in May 2007 following a central directive on human-organ transplants.
Those institutes which fail to pass the assessment will be required to stop related operations. Results are to be released on the ministry's website.
While the 2007 directive contributed greatly to the regulation of organ transplant services, its rigid restrictions on donors and receivers led to the emergence of an illegal organs market.
