A mockup of jumbo jet C919, the major project of the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), will go on display at the upcoming Asian Aerospace '09 in Hong Kong, event organizer Reed Exhibitions said Thursday.

It will be the international debut of the new airliner outside the Chinese mainland, Richard Thiele, global head of sales for Reed Exhibitions, told a press conference. COMAC was a company established in 2008 with the State Council approval to develop C919, the first home-made jumbo jet of China. It is expected to enter service in 2016.

COMAC will be one of the many exhibitors at the Asian Aerospace '09, which attracted industry giants such as Airbus and Boeing, as well as Embraer, Cessna, Gulfstream, Lufthansa Technik, among others. Sixteen aircraft will be on display.

The Asian Aerospace will run from Sept. 8 through 10. Airbus will also be displaying an A318 elite, the newest and most affordable member of the modern Airbus corporate jet family, at the Asian Aerospace for the first time.

There will also be a number of integrated trade shows held concurrent at the AsiaWorld Expo at the Hong Kong International Airport. They will cover more of the supply chain including engine manufactures, interior designers and suppliers of parts and components. Industry forums will also be held alongside the show, Thiele said.

The Asian Aerospace, held every other year in Singapore but moved to Hong Kong since 2007, will be held in Hong Kong in 2011, too, Thiele said, citing the city's location in the heart of Asia and its unique position as a gateway and springboard to the Chinese mainland market.

He also said he saw greenshoots of a recovery in the aviation industry, as can be seen from recent fast growth of Chinese mainland air traffic, among others.
