COMAC's assembly line to be built in Shanghai Pudong New Area

Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China Ltd (COMAC) signed a cooperative agreement framework with the government of Pudong New Area of Shanghai Wednesday to finalize the assembling and manufacturing center of the country's first domestically-produced jumbo-jet C919 in the Pudong New Area.

The center, situated in the South of Pudong International Airport, will cover an area of 267 hectares.

The company said that the construction of the Pudong base will begin by the end of this year, and once operations begin, the base aims to achieve an annual production of 20 C919 jets and 50 ARJ21-series planes by 2016.

"Assembling and manufacturing are among the core capabilities that ensure the business success of the ARJ21 and C919 passenger planes, and it will largely boost China's civil airplane industry," Jin Zhuanglong, general manager of COMAC, was quoted as saying.

This center, wholly owned by COMAC, has a registered capital of 2 billion yuan.

The Shanghai-based COMAC was established in May 2008 with registered capital of 19 billion yuan and aims to become an aircraft giant that can compete with Boeing and Airbus.
