FedEx adds new freight

FedEx Trade Networks, a subsidiary of FedEx Corporation, Thursday announced it has opened a freight forwarding office in Ningbo, Jiangsu Province, to further its reach in China as part of global expansion plan.

This is the ninth city FedEx has moved into on the Chinese mainland following its first office opened in Shanghai last year.

The other cities include Beijing, Guangzhou, Qingdao, Shenzhen, Xiamen, and Tianjin.

In China, the company started airfreight business in March 2008 and plans to launch sea freight operations in March 2010, said Joseph Frank, managing director of Asia, FedEx Trade Networks, Thursday.

"The market exploration is driven by customer need," said Frank, expecting sea freight to account for 80 percent of FedEx's future business.
