British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said Friday that developed countries have a moral obligation to help poor countries.
Brown made the remarks at a press conference held at the end of the Group of Eight (G8) Summit. The G8 industrialized countries and five emerging economies have agreed a new program to provide 20 billion US dollars for Africa in the next three years.
Britain will contribute 1.8 billion dollars in the program, Brown said.
The prime minister said all countries agreed to "act decisively" to mitigate the effects of the financial crisis and encourage the return of economic growth. He urged for all necessary measures to achieve a comprehensive strategy for economic growth.
