Tokyo stocks down for 9th straight trading day

Tokyo stocks fell Monday for the ninth straight trading day on Japan's domestic political uncertainty and renewed concern about global economic outlook.

The benchmark Nikkei-225 index plunged 236.95 points, or 2.55 percent, from Friday to 9,050.33. The fall also marked the benchmark index's longest falling streak since early July last year.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 20.08 points, or 2.30 percent, to 852.42.
