Australian dollar closes lower

The Australian dollar closed at its weakest finish in almost two months on Monday as expectations of a strong economic recovery waned and appetite for risk faded.

The Australian dollar was trading at 77.33 US cents down from Friday's close of 77.98 US cents.

During the day, the unit moved between a high of 78.23 US cents and a low of 77.14 US cents, the latter reached in the last 15 minutes of the session.

The Australian dollar was trading at 71.32 Japanese yen, down from Friday's close of 72.21 yen, and at 55.52 euro cents, down from 55.89 euro cents.
