Germany hails Zimbabwe's socio-economic recovery initiatives

Germany is committed to offering technical and financial support to Zimbabwe to ensure the success of the inclusive government, an envoy has said.

Germany Ambassador to Zimbabwe Albrecht Conze also hailed the current socio-economic recovery initiatives by Zimbabwe's inclusive government, saying that his country wishes that Zimbabwe will emerge as a globally competitive economy in the ear future.

Conze said this soon after a courtesy call on Zimbabwe Vice President Joyce Mujuru on Tuesday.

"As Germany we want to be at the fore front in assisting the Zimbabwean government in its recovery path and we have already shown our commitment ...," Conze was quoted by ZBC News as saying on Wednesday.

The courtesy call gave the two politicians a chance to discuss strategies to deal with the current global economic crisis which has affected most economies in Europe including Germany, ZBC News said.

Germany's relations with Zimbabwe have greatly improved with the European country recently availing over 30 million US dollars financial aid to Zimbabwe.

Just some few months ago, the German government also announced the lifting of travel warning to Zimbabwe, a move which is expected to see an increase in the number of Germany tourists visiting Zimbabwe.
