Nikkei opens 1.39% lower

Tokyo stocks opened lower Monday with the key Nikkei index down 1.39 percent.

At 9:15 a.m., the benchmark Nikkei 225 Average shed 147.83 points to 10,449.50.

The broader Topix lost 10.82 points, or 1.11 percent, to 962.75.

The Second Section also declined.
