Tokyo stocks fell amid directionless trading Wednesday on uncertain global economic recovery hopes as well as further fall on Shanghai stock exchange.

The benchmark 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 80.96 points, or 0.79 percent, from Tuesday to 10,204.00.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange ended down 6.41 points, or 0.67 percent, to 943.25.
