Aid from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) worth 1.74 billion special drawing right (about 2.7 billion U.S. dollars) would only be used in an urgent situation, the private news portal Kompas.com quoted an official with Indonesia's central bank as saying on Monday.
"It wouldn't be used if we are not in urgent situation. The important thing is that it's our right to have it disbursed," said Darmin Nasution, deputy senior of Bank Indonesia, the country's central bank.
As part of its efforts to tackle crisis, the IMF would allocate the SDR to strengthen the global liquidity in 2009. The SDR is the international forex reserves created in 1969 as additional forex reserves for the agency's members.
The SDR general realization for the IMF's members would be conducted simultaneously on Aug. 28, 2009. Although it is an aid, the central bank stressed that the SDR is not a loan.
