Indonesia's State Minister for Cooperative and Small-Medium Enterprise (SME) Suryadharma Ali said that the number of entrepreneurs in the country is much lower compared to other countries, the national news agency Antara reported on Wednesday.

"Indonesia is one of the countries with very small number of entrepreneurs," said Suryadharma here.

He said entrepreneurs only account for 0.18 percent of the country's total population -- about 238 million. According to him,the ideal number of entrepreneurs in a country is more than two percent of its population.

"It's because economic progress of a nation could be very heavily depended on the number of its entrepreneurs," he said.

Therefore, he said, the government should correct the situation by optimize empowerment program, especially in the ministry.

Suryadaharma admitted that he has never been satisfied with achievement of growing entrepreneurship as minister for cooperative and SME.

"I hope that new entrepreneurship program could be continued in the future," he said.
