Some 342.8 million US dollars were secured from export trade during the first three months of the current Ethiopian budget year, which started on July 7, said a government official on Saturday.
Amakel Yimam, head of public relations with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, told journalists that the income was secured from products exported to over 100 European, Asian and African countries and the United States.
The products include coffee, cereals, flowers, oil seeds, khat, meat and livestock.
Amakel said nearly 3 billion dollars were expected to be secured at the end of this budget year.
The Ethiopian official attributed the increase to the government's prime attention given to the foreign trade sector and activities being carried out by investors.
He said foreign trade has significant role in efforts to extricate the country from poverty.
