The London Stock Exchange (LSE) resumed trading Thursday after a technical hitch had put it out of action for three-and-a-half hours.
The LSE began trading again at 1400 GMT after it suspended trade at 1030 GMT "due to ongoing technical difficulties," it said in a brief statement.
London's benchmark FTSE 100 index was down 1.84 percent at 5,266.00 points on the resumption of trading, while the pre-suspension trading ended with a 1.86 percent drop.
World stock markets fell sharply Thursday owing to anxiety over a debt default request of Dubai on Wednesday.
LSE also announced Thursday that it is in exclusive talks to buy pan-European electronic trading platform Turquoise.
